Prepare for the CISSP Exam and What to Expect By Bill Cutting

Expert Author Bill Cutting

 the Actual Exam
While the CISSP is highest paying certification in Information Security, it is also one of the hardest certifications to obtain. The test consists of 250 multiple choice questions answered over the duration of 6 hours. 25 of the questions are "trial" questions where the answers are not counted towards your grade. These questions are used for possible inclusion in a later test. The test taker must pass the test with a score of 700 or higher on a scale of 1000. The problem for test takers is that ISC2 will not disclose how they weight each question. It is not known if some questions are weighted more than others.
For test takers that pass the test, they will receive an email from ISC2 within 6-8 weeks (usually more like 2) letting them know that they passed the test. People that pass the test will not receive their actual score. ISC2 has said that this is to curb any competition among CISSP's when adding credentials to things like resumes. They prefer to say that all CISSP's are equal. Testers that do not pass the test will be given their score and how well they did on each of the 10 domains. This helps the test taker know what areas they did poorly in so they can study them and retake the exam.
ISC2 has gone to great lengths to assure their certification's credibility is protected. They mitigate threats by making sure access to their testing materials is strictly controlled. Test takers are required to use scan-tron sheets and make sure that they turn in ALL materials before leaving the testing center including any scratch paper that was used. The only thing you can bring into the room with you is a drink and a lunch. You must keep both of them at the front of the room and off your desk. Although some proctors are a little more lenient on the drinks. You ARE allowed to take a short bathroom break, although if you are taking a long time, the proctor may come looking for you.
So get a good night's sleep and prepare yourself for the grueling 6 hour test ahead of you. Get a decent breakfast in you because you may not have time for lunch. Many test takers use the entire 6 hours so get your body prepared to take as few breaks as possible. Get there early and go over your notes one last time before entering the classroom. Read every question carefully and take your time selecting the "best" answer. A lot of the questions will have multiple answers that are correct, but you will need to decide the "best" answer.
Good Luck!

Understanding CCIE

Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification. Just the title is daunting, so is actually trying to achieve this coveted certification. They put the word expert in for a reason, Cisco offers other levels of certification, and having one like CCNA under your belt first will only build on your knowledge to help you succeed when attempting the CCIE course. Before tackling any learning though, decide which track you are interested in.
You can get CCIE training for five certifications but the costs are hefty, so you need a course that suits your field of interest and a boot camp to make sure your investment is not wasted. Each certification will be upwards of $1500, and each requires you to get written training as well as a lab boot camp. Lab exams for any of the five tracks are offered in only 10 locations worldwide, adding more to the final price of the certifications.
Routing and Switching
The Routing and Switching track focuses on different routing and switching configurations. With this being the most popular track of Cisco CCIE training, it should not be surprising that IP interior gateway and border gateway protocols are covered as well as multicast routing, quality of service, security and IP and IOS features. Of course, this means there is training required before you get to the last grunt. As always the need for written boot camp comes before the lab training because you need to clear the written exam first.
Security
There are similar Cisco lab boot camps if network security interests you. Network security implies more than just reliance on firewalls. This track requires training covering firewalls as well as Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA). These courses also detail intrusion detection systems (IDS), virtual private networking (VPD), and internet operating system (IOS) security among others.
Service Provider
You can't really aspire for a service provider business without going through a lab boot camp for the Service Provider track. Every possible type of network is covered in this course, so the written training will include more than just how to provide DSL. Optical networks, voice over IP, Metro Ethernet, and content networking are not left out of this training but there are boot camps tailored to give you the optimum information to pass these difficult exams.
Storage Networking
Storage Networking is the newest of the five Cisco CCIE tracks. Speed networks such as FC, or Fibre Channel, Fibre Channel tunneling, storage area networks such as iSCSI, fiber connectivity (FICON), and Intra VSAN routing are all included in this course.
Voice
The Voice certification calls for rigorous training and is probably the most difficult of the five Cisco CCIE courses. With the average person utilizing three to four attempts at the lab examination before passing, it isn't just the lab boot camp that you need but the written training will build you up for the lab work.
Remember though, with the course exams priced so high, it is actually a wise investment to spend some more and make sure your initial investment does not go to waste. Find the best Cisco CCIE boot camp out there before you even try the exams. Don't rush; you can have 18 months lab training after passing the written exam before you have to give the lab test. The important thing is to get into a good training program so you can really put in an effort.

How to Become CCIE Certified

It is a huge career choice to take up a Cisco CCIE course. The training as well as the actual tests cost enough, but the most difficult factor is actually passing the exams. There are boot camps for applicants where they can learn, and more importantly, get lab training during the camps. If there is anything more important than a rigorous boot camp, it is preparing your mind for the job. Let's take a look at some of the things you need to consider for your Cisco CCIE course.
1. Find out where you stand in terms of expertise; how much lab training you need based on the CCIE Security lab blueprints? While there is no prerequisite for courses, it is best to have a strong base to your knowledge. Practically doing something prepares you like nothing else for the task ahead, and that is exactly why you need to take up lab training. So if you have professional experience of 2-3 years in the field, the base is there for you to build, the rest can be developed during your written training and the Cisco CCIE lab boot camp.
2. Long leaps for such a tough exam will get you nowhere, so before plunging into courses, clear CCSP and CCIP exams. While Cisco has not made these prerequisites for the course, it is important to further solidify your base before CCIE.
3. The written training is important since it provides a base for your CCIE lab boot camp. The written exam is easier so the key is to use the written boot camp to help you pass the written exam so you can enroll in the lab test. That's when things really heat up.
4. Put everything you have into your lab boot camp. The lab is the hardest part of the exam and where you need to be 100% to get through. Practice until you are perfect and your CCIE training ensures your hands will just refuse to go wrong at the time of reckoning.
5. With a CCIE course you are vying to be labeled an expert in your field, remember that an expert is never stagnant in knowledge. Other than your boot camp and the lab training, you have to read up a lot on the technology you are dealing with and broaden your mental horizon. There is a big 'but' attached to this point though. Read all you like but find the answers for yourself during your boot camp because that's what you will remember.
6. A personal lab is ideal, but really, how many can afford it? For those who cannot, the answer is in Cisco CCIE lab boot camps since these can really prepare you for the test ahead. Remember though, your training is only as good as the instructor you have. Be sure you are learning from a certified CCIE instructor.
Whether it is Cisco CCIE lab training, CCIE written training or any other phases of the courses, remember to enjoy the whole episode in your life. It is a huge decision to go for the course certification and you are giving up a lot to get to that end goal. Once you are there you will look back at your boot camp with pride but right now, when you are working on getting there, learn to enjoy your training. Let your work be your passion.

How to Prepare For the CCIE Exam

Statistics say you need thorough Cisco CCIE training, before you can even start dreaming about being certified an professional. Less than 10% of the applicants clear the exam on an average, and courses cost quite a bit. Sitting in the exams is not exactly cheap either, so whether you use written training or a lab boot camp, the goal is to prepare in a way that you end up in the category that holds the less than 10% applicants for CCIE.
How much Training do you need?
Formal CCIE courses pertain to mock test environments where you can get good training before you spend on the exam. We all have different career experiences so some will need more time for training and others will find the courses easier because of how they have lived through the situations long enough at work. The best way to go about preparing is to gauge where you stand in terms of your requirement for a boot camp, and before taking up CCIE training.
Cisco CCIE Written Training
The written exam is not the hardest part of the course so you can take up the written boot camps options online. With CCIE training, you want to let the concepts sink in. Online CCIE written training might give you the time you want, however, it's often observed that a written camp environment invigorates the minds better than solo study does. Whether you take up self study, an online CCIE written training course or a formal written boot camp, just do enough to get through your written training and exam because you should try to get to the heat of the batter as soon as possible.
Instructor for Cisco CCIE Boot Camp
Your mental condition for the courses matter, but so does the instructor for your lab training. Make sure you choose a boot camp where the instructor not only knows how to teach but is also an expert in the field.
Cisco CCIE Lab Training
The three most important things you can do to prepare for your CCIE exam are practice, practice and most importantly practice. It is what you need throughout your boot camp so when you are in your 8 hour exam at the end of your training solving problems becomes a habit of sorts. For the CCIE lab training, you can join a lab camp or you can rent/buy equipment to simulate the lab environment. While the boot camp is not a prerequisite for the exam and you can easily skip taking up formal training because it is usually costly, a formal boot camp can do you a lot of good if you are in the presence of a knowledgeable proctor.
Always Thirst for More
Additional reading is not just about what you listen to or read in your course. To be an expert in the field you need to enjoy your courses. Even more importantly, to be certified you need to keep up with the publications in your field. Make it a habit to read about the new methods, technologies and opinions. Read them and then assess their validity for yourself through your training.

Computer Working Slow? A Computer Speed Test Will Help

Expert Author Tomas Rochett

Has your PC been running a little slow, lately?
Running a computer speed test will help determine what the problem is and get your computer working like it did when you first purchased it.
We all buy a new system hoping it will last forever, however, it usually isn't long after we purchase it that it starts to slow down. By taking the time to do a speed test on your suddenly sluggish machine, you can often confirm that there is indeed a problem. Below we talk about a few of the things that could slow down your hardware.
Running too many applications on your computer at one time is often a reason why your machine will work slower. Computers have a limit on the available resources and memory on hand to run complicated software programs. Many of the software applications offered today require significant resources that can slow down the operation of your system. In order to solve this problem you need to compare the resources your computer has on hand to the requirements for each software program. Testing the speed of the operation of a PC will help determine this, which will allow you to determine exactly which software programs you can run at the same time.
Users who uninstall software also need to be careful, as removing software incorrectly could slow down the operation of a computer. If this happens, the software package you did not uninstall correctly will still have remnant particles taking space in your Windows registry. If this is always the case, the Windows registry will eventually become too big, which will slow down the operation of a computer.
A third reason a PC could be working slower is because you need to take care of doing regular defragmenting of your hard drive. Windows-based systems generally include a tool to help defragment the hard drive which you need to use regularly. Defragmenting your hard drive allows your computer to access files on your system faster, which should help it work faster.
It could also be the existence of registry errors on your system slowing down the machine. If the Windows registry becomes corrupted, this will slow down a computer.
Spyware, malware and viruses can cause errors in a computer system as they change the Windows registry. Run a regular computer speed test to make sure everything is running as they should, and keep your computer working as fast as it should.

Efficient Network Summarization

Expert Author Manolis Skoras

CIDR and Summarization
The hierarchal network strategy is intended to make route summarization simpler and to cut routing protocol processing. Route summarization is also called route aggregation. It is a method of advertising a group of contiguous addresses as a single record with a smaller, less specific subnet mask.
Since classless inter-domain routing disregards the limitation of classful boundaries, it permits summarization with variable length subnet masks that are smaller than the default classful subnet mask. A network address with a smaller prefix length than the default classed prefix length is called a supernet. For example 172.16.0.0/14 is a supernet address. The default subnet mask for the Class B 172.16.0.0 address is 16 bits. Four contiguous Class B addresses can be summarized into one routing table record, if we use a /14 prefix.
This kind of summarization helps decrease the amount of records in routing updates and lowers the amount of entries in local routing tables. The outcome is faster and more efficient routing table lookups.
Prefix Addresses and Summarization
Classless routing protocols transmit the prefix length and subnet mask in routing updates.
A mixed hierarchy of variable-sized nets and subnets can be summarized at several points using a prefix address. For instance, a summary route can have a 14-bit prefix. The prefix: 172.16.0.0/14 with a subnet mask of: 255.252.0.0 summarizes the 172.16.0.0 /16, 172.17.0.0 /16, 172.18.0.0 /16, and 172.19.0.0 /16 subnets.
Route summarization decreases the load on upstream routers. For summarization to work efficiently, addresses must be wisely allocated in a hierarchical way so that summarized addresses share the same high-order bits.
A good network address plan is determined by numerous criteria:
1. The amount of computers and network appliances that are currently supported on the net
2. How much growth is expected
3. The amount of computers that must be accessible from nets that are not part of the local LAN or Intranet
4. The physical layout of the net
5. The routing and security policies that are implemented
Reachability of Hosts
Certain PC in the network must be accessible from nets that are not part of the local LAN or Intranet. To be reachable from the Internet, the servers must have a publicly registered IP address. Furthermore, there needs to be enough public addresses to use with NAT.
Security and Routing Policies
From time to time supplementary IP networks are needed to separate IP traffic for security or filtering purposes. When this is the case, different IP subnets are typically created. Wireless and IP telephones need separate IP nets.
The routing protocol choice affects how a net is addressed. A number of routing protocols do not support classless IP addressing. The default summarization applied in the routing protocol is also something that you should think about.

From 3D Model to Concept Car

Expert Author Antoinette Ayana

Before products are introduced to the public, the product developers often make a 3D model so that they can see how the concept will appear when finished. These cell phone manufacturers, toy makers, and vehicle designers use these small-scale replicas of the concept to study before the actual object goes into production.
There are many ways to create a 3D model. These include using mathematical equations, pen and pencil, or through the use of a computer. Game creators started using these images to develop their products before computers started recording and using real time to create these new images. These early designers called their images "sprites".
Not only are 3D models used in the video game industry, but also in industrial fields for research. These models include the body part models for the medical industry, the science community's chemical compound models, and building, landscape, and automobile models for architects and engineers. There has also been a recent introduction of a 3D model with geographical features to the science community.
The 3D model is usually created in two different forms, the solid model and the boundary model. If you are creating a solid model you are trying to show the actual size and shape of the object. These are the types that are used mostly in the medical and engineering fields; therefore, the hardest to make. If you are making a boundary model you are trying to show the surface of the object only. These are easier to construct and are usually done by using computer graphics. The media and art fields usually use these kinds of 3D models.
In the United States one of the most common ways that the 3D model is used is in the making of an automobile. Each new car concept starts with a sketch and later becomes hard drawings. These drawings get colored in all the right places and tweaked so that the engineers can then create the design. These designs are later made into a small-scale 3D model so that all the important parts can be pieced together to form the new vehicle.
When the vehicle designers use 3D models they can insert all the different trim package and color options. Then they take the concept vehicle on a virtual "test drive" to see how it works in all possible driving situations. After it has been tested, the vehicle is ready to go to production on the assembly line, then to the dealership where potential owners can buy their new dream car. Because of the many roles that 3D models play, their development plays a major factor in our lives from day to day.

How to Make a Low Budget Movie - Bring Your Screenplay to Life

Expert Author Steven Razzon

Feature length movies can be made for ten thousand dollars. However, they are more likely to be turn out better and be a success if you pay about five to ten times as much. There are exceptions of course, and some movies costing only 10 to 20 thousand dollars to make have made millions of dollars. If you want to make a movie on a low budget there are many things to consider besides just getting it made cheaply if you want to be a success. This article explains different ways that movies can be made at low cost, and the pros and cons to the different methods. It is primarily for someone with a screenplay or a movie idea who wants to see their idea come to life.
If you have a movie script or movie idea that you want made into a movie, it can be done, with difficulty, or with relative ease. And it can be completed under budget, or over budget.
To illustrate what I mean, imagine you have a house and you want to add two rooms to it and you have no building experience, but you know what you want. If you have enough money, you can explain what you want to an experienced builder, and have them do it all. If you want to save money, you may think about doing some of the work yourself. You might think, well I have a table saw and I can measure and I can pound nails, so I'll do the framing, and hire someone to finish it. When the finishing crew comes to finish it, they may find the rooms are a bit off square, and not quite level, and for them to finish it it will take lots of extra work because the basics were not done right. The total cost can then be more than if you had hired experts right from the start.
The same applies to making a movie. You have your screenplay, and maybe a camera and some of the equipment, and you know some people who will volunteer, and you have taken some workshops on operating the camera and practiced a bit. You shoot your movie, and then hand it to an editor to finish it. Like with the addition to the house, if the basics were not done right, the editor will have a lot more work to make it presentable, and may in fact not be able to make it totally professional looking because of errors that were made during shooting. It would have been cheaper to get expert help right at the start, and to only concentrate on directing and telling your story.
You might think well, what else can I do? I don't have the money to hire a big professional crew to make it. The answer is to find a very small professional crew, who are expert at shooting low-budget movies to do it. The cost will likely be less than if you tried to "save money" by doing jobs you were not expert at. You can still do a lot of the work yourself, but restrict yourself for the most part to doing the simple no brainer jobs, and let the experts do their thing. You can find filmmakers who have the experience and know how to bring your story to life, and all you have to do is find them. After all, what you really want is a nicely finished, professional looking movie that tells your story. Search, and you will find the people that you need, and be much happier in the long run.
I am expert at making low-budget movies with very small crews. I live in Vancouver, which is sometimes called Hollywood North, and many movies are made here. Movie making tricks are used to make movies shot here look like they were made in New York, Texas, LA, the midwest or many other parts of the world. These tricks are very inexpensive and Vancouver has a lot of low cost talent. I offer complete packages, or partial packages, from $14,000 up, and they are explained on my website:

Is 3D A Whole New Dimension Of Making Films?

Ever since James Cameron's 'Avatar' and its widespread success, filmmakers in Hollywood are desperately trying to use the revolutionary 3D technology for a number of genres. 3D has become a natural preference for most of the animated films as well as action and sci-fi films big on action and special effects. These films are meant to be big successes with the audiences in the theaters. 3D technology has enabled people to experience hurtling effects and spaceships which seem to pop right out of the silver screens. Even Bollywood is warming up to the sensation of the Extra Dimension. Last year, we had both 'Ra One' and 'Don2' releasing in a separate 3D format in theaters.
On the surface of it, 3D technology for films seems to be big success factor for Hollywood. After 'Avatar', there have been many spectacular successes like 'Adventures Of Tintin- Secret Of Unicorn' and of course the final installments of the popular Harry Potter series. They have made sure that the movie watchers have thronged the aisles with tubs of popcorn. But there have been some glaring failures as well. Films like 'Green Hornet'. Green Lantern' and 'Clash Of The Titans' have compelled people to question the profitability in using the 3D technology for every kind of film. The animation section, however, continues to ride high.
The problem is not with the state of technology being a fashion and fad. In the past, there have been considerable introductions of technique and innovation. These continue to be inspiring for many filmmakers and directors, even as they may be termed as old fashioned. The problem is that thing- use of technology. In Hollywood, filmmakers are simply pumping cash into films with big effects but little else. This means that after a time, the 3D technology, if used so ludicrously, will no longer be a novelty. Technology benefits film-making only if it makes storytelling novel and extraordinary to the audiences. The 3D should be used for movies which can be made exciting or genuinely sensational with the use of technology.
Then again, expensive technology is not the main thing. Even inferior or cheaper technology of making films can be used effectively to make a simple but well-written film more viable to specific audiences. Think about movies like 'Paranormal Experience'. The cheaply made horror flick revels in the gritty style of its hand-held, scratchy and realistic camerawork. I-MAX technology is another thing which could be misused. In most films, no one actually notices that the action scenes have been shot with I-MAX cameras. But in well-made films like 'The Dark Knight' or 'Inception', one does feel the difference.
With the current state of indulgence, 3D would be best used if left to the hands of a few filmmakers. Martin Scorsese's latest film 'Hugo' uses the 3D cameras to shoot people and real scenarios rather than computer generated imagery. The film's is a story of childhood and innocence but it also uses 3D so as to capture the expressions, emotions and the real depth to the characters and the backgrounds. If 3D films are filmed or made in such an impressive manner, it will be a really new dimension to film-making and storytelling.

Amateur Cinema 2012 - Video Production

Expert Author Blake Barnett

We are living during an unprecedented time of options in the world of amateur and professional filmmaking. Prices, availability, options, and capabilities have been increasing at an unprecedented rate. There are many reasons for this but I think two main contributors are RED Digital Cinema and the emergence of DSLR's. There are many detractors of both but in terms of making amazing technological abilities available to the masses they have been instrumental. To literally be able to spend $1000 on a Canon, Nikon or Panasonic DSLR video production camera and have a viable movie making machine is something that was impossible even 3 years ago.
RED started in 2005 with a simple idea, to bring inexpensive, high quality cinema video cameras to the masses. With their second generation camera, the EPIC, they have by many critic's conclusions finally arrived at a camera that can actually rival 35mm film. With resolution exceeding that of S35, extended Dynamic Range provided by HDR-X and sensitivity that brings about shooting possibilities never reached by film, the EPIC has ushered in a whole new generation of filmmaking.
On the lower end, Canon with its 5DMkII camera and its full frame 35mm sensor has changed all the rules of what it takes to make a movie. In fact it has even been used on the Oscar nominated film 127 Hours. Despite their issues, these cameras have put the big guys in the industry on the hot-seat and made it very clear what they need to do to keep up in this democratized production environment.
SO... ON November 3rd 2011 there was a huge announcement from both Canon and RED about their respective products. They may not have been game-changers for major Hollywood studios but they certainly had an impact on nearly every indie filmmaker on Earth. I know that sounds like hyperbole but the point is that if Scarlet or the new Canon camera is not the one you own it will still create waves in the rest of the industry and further push the price vs. performance envelope. It's a great time to be a filmmaker and it's a great time to be in video production.
RED Epic-X
Epic-X Features are as follows: (with my comments thrown in)
RED DSMC (Digital Stills and Motion Camera)
New MYSTERIUM-X 5K sensor
5K (2:1, 2.4:1, Anamorphic 2:1) at 1-120fps
4.5k RAW (2.4:1) at 1-120fps
4K (16:9, HD, 2:1, Anamorphic 2:1) at 1-150fps (more than is currently available in the RED One at 2k)
3K (16:9, 2:1, Anamorphic 2:1) at 1-200fps
2K (16:9, 2:1, Anamorphic 2:1) at 1-300fps (hopefully it will be a sharper 2k than on the RED One which is not great.)
1080P (16:9) (one of the most exciting ones for me given so much documentary type shooting could be easily handled with a pristine 1080p master)
720P (16:9)
Increased Dynamic Range - 13.5 Stops, but ability to do 18 stops
Time Lapse, Frame Ramping (probably just an improved version of what's on the RED One)
REDCODE 12 and 16-bit RAW (Awesome for some things but that's a LOT of data, I will stick to a lower number most of the time)
ISO 200-8000 (I would love to see some relatively clean stuff at 2000 at least)
Completely Modular System, each Module individually upgradeable
Independent Stills and Motion Modes (both record full resolution REDCODE RAW)
5 Axis Adjustable Sensor Plate (sounds cool but I'm not sure how hard it will be to simply set back focus.)
Multiple Recording Media Options (Compact Flash, RED MAG SSD, RED Drives, RED RAM) They are supposedly having 2 compact flash slots which will be very useful and finally catching up with the times.
Wireless REDMOTE control (A very good idea and something that should've been around long ago.)
Touchscreen LCD control option (cool but not indispensable)
Bomb-EVF, RED-EVF and RED-LCD compatible (I am VERY happy about this one)
Multiple User Control Buttons
LDS and /i Data enabled PL Mount (A Requirement more than a development)
Monitor Ports support both LCD and EVF (YAY 2 LCD's at a time)
720P, 1080P and 2K monitoring support
Gigagbit Network interface and 802.11 Wireless interface (Finally my iPhone will not have more power than my 30k camera.)
3 Axis internal motion sensor, built in GPS receiver (Pretty slick, oh the possibilities)
Enhanced Metadata
Full size connectors on Pro I/O Module. AES Digital Audio input, single and dual link HD-SDI
Support for RED, most Arri 19mm, Studio 15mm, 15mm Lite, Panavision and NATO accessories. INDUSTRY STANDARD IS INDUSTRY STANDARD. I'm glad they're realizing this more and more.
Dimensions- Approx. 4''4,'5.5''
Weight (Brain only)- Approx. 5 lbs (2.27kg)

Hollywood on Producing Black Films By Sura Khan

Expert Author Sura Khan

The political and economical reality according to filmmaker George Lucas
African American filmmakers and other prominent figures should establish a distribution system to market black films across the globe. Hollywood admits that even with an Academy Award winning name like Cuba Gooding Jr. they still don't know how to market black films, according to filmmaker George Lucas, director of "Star Wars". In a recent interview with Jon Stewart on the Daily Show, Lucas appeared as a guest promoting his new film "Red Tail", a story about the African American World War II heroes, the Tuskegee Airmen. With an all African American cast starring Cuba Gooding Jr. with R&B singer and song writer Neo, this is a Lucas film 23 years in the making and personally financed. Lucas laid out the political and economical views of the Hollywood Movie system in regards to the production and distribution of black films. He stated that he wanted to make an inspirational film for teenage boys and highlight the African American patriots that helped to make this country what it is today.
The troubling part of this interview was Lucas's story about getting the film distributed. He admits that all of the studios turned it down and expressed views that they didn't know how to market a film like this (Red Tail) because it had no 'green' in it. What did they mean by this? That there is no money in it or the fact that there were no major lead roles with white actors and therefore that no real money can be made? Lucas stated that the studios even refused to release Tyler Perry movies and referred to them as being' low budget films handled by a lower level distribution system'. He said that films like Perry's actually do pretty well but the major studios don't touch them. He said "Red Tail" actually cost him more money to make than what a Perry film earns in box office revenues. The studios believe there's no foreign market for it and that relates to 60% of their profit. Lucas said that "Red Tail" is one of the first all black action pictures ever made. This is incorrect because there are many all black action pictures that have been produced, especially some of the black exploitation films of the 1970s that starred black actors, however Hollywood just didn't embrace them. There are many that exist today that just don't make it to the big screen.
In the interview, Jon Stewart jokingly asked Lucas "Now, the scene in it when Hitler tells Cuba Gooding Jr. that he's his father?". The audience burst into laughter. Well, what are you actually saying Jon? Maybe lines like this are the real reason Hollywood don't know how to market black films. George Lucas said of the Tuskegee Airmen, "They are the true heroes of World War II" and also expressed that those who are still alive showed great emotion, came up to him with tears in their eyes, thanking him for making a film that finally recognized them.
The reality of telling our stories with integrity and depth and getting them to market is falling on the shoulders of the independent filmmakers producing them. Most black filmmakers go into debt and bankruptcy because they believe that their stories have substance, a great purpose and markets waiting to embrace them, even when Hollywood fails them. Black business owners have a responsibility, and should not only take from the consumer but give back, which most of them do. Black businesses should start supporting, sponsoring and financing African American films like never before. They will make a great contribution towards educating African Americans as well as many other ethnic groups who are clueless to the depths of the real African American experience.
I believe that there is a foreign market for African American films and those in Hollywood are just not interested in telling those stories. You know what? That's OK because the stories they do decide to tell, they seem to tell upside down anyway. If there were no foreign market for black films then why did Viacom spend 3 Billion dollars to acquire (BET) Black Entertainment Television Holdings in 2001? At the time of the BET purchase, the programming was airing in approximately 62 million African American households and watched across 14 countries. Somebody is tuning into the black experience via television. Why would EMI Publishing pay former Motown founder Berry Gordy 132 million dollars for rights to those (Motown/Jobete publishing) oldies that did extremely well in foreign countries? It certainly looks like there's a foreign market to me.
Recently Damon Diddit and Natural Langdon, independent African American filmmakers from Brownsville Brooklyn in New York City, produced a film depicting the realities of life in their community called "Bullets over Brownsville" and were invited to Berlin, Germany where the movie screened at a film festival. They also produced a reality program of that experience called the "Unglamorous Life of Filmmaking. Now, it certainly looks like there's a foreign market to me. It's very strange that George Lucas would speak out openly about the Hollywood movie system and their views when they pay him millions to make films. I wonder; is this a publicity stunt designed to get blacks into the theaters on January 20, 2012?
Black Americans need to take back control of their history and future in motion picture arts & science. They need to find ways to ensure that the African American experience is projected on the screen through the right eyes and channels.

Canon Digital Feature Film Making

Thanks to The Canon Company and the digital camcorders and DSLRs there is an underground digital film revolution happening. This revolution began a few years ago when Canon decided to add the 24 frames per second option into most of its mid range consumer camcorders. Later it would at this as a video option in its DSLR and the revolution has caught fire world wide.
There are so many sites and blogs dedicated to DSLR cameras such has the Canon D7, Mark II and the T2I that I thought that I would go old school and focus on the cameras that started the revolution and with a few add-ons can offer nearly the picture quality at a low price point. I will focus largely on the Canon HV series and the feature films that have been made with these little monsters and when the moment demands it I will get into some of the great work being done with the DSLRs.
Let's begin with why should a low budget film maker consider these cameras. I would say in response that a low budget film maker should not and by low budget I mean if you have fifty thousand dollars or more to spend then you should consider using the Canon Mark II or the Red or a number of the Panasonic pro-sumer camcorders if you want to make a feature film. If you have fifty thousand or more why not go 16mm film. The film cameras are cheap and if you know what you are doing with them then go right ahead. The truth is that I am not here for the low budget film maker. I am here for those who are called ultra low budget or no budget film makers. You fall into this category if you have less than ten thousand dollars to spend on your first feature.
Allow me to describe you. You or a close friend have written the screenplay for your movie. You will be doing this project with the help of friends and family who will work behind the scenes for no pay. You will be shooting on nights and weekends and at locations that you can get for free or get in and out of without being caught filming there. Your actors will be paid little to nothing up front. You will be looking to get the best production value out of the least amount of money spent possible.
In other words you are a lot like me.
You are only willing to pay for what is absolutely unavoidable. The three area where you are going to have to spend money are:
Sound, if your audience can not hear the movie then you are doomed. Viewers will give up on your project the third or fourth time they have to mutter what did he just say? Huh, What was that?
Editing, you may be able to use a free program, but you will need a computer strong enough and quick enough to edit and hopefully do some sound mixing on. If you have such a computer cool, you just saved money.
Camera, you need something that shoots in HD digital and shoots at 24p. Why 24p? That is the industry standard. This is the frame rate that gives you that motion picture look. You are going to have to spend some money on your camera. Money on the lenses and in most cases on a depth of field adapter.
The cameras are why we are here and let us talk about what to do and not to do. Get the best camera at the lowest possible price that will get the job done. Do not blow half of your production budget on your awesome new camera. It will feel wonderful to have that expensive camera and muse about all the things that it is able to do until it is day 12 of shooting and you have no money to feed your cast and crew. You have no money left for transportation, (gas money) and you have just realized that you should have set aside at least a third of your budget for post production cost. Treat your camera like the tool that it is.
A camera is not jewelry. It is not a diamond ring. It is a tool. You could consider it a hammer or a shovel. I think of mine as my axe. Like a good guitar it can make beautiful music if tuned just right.
As a independent movie maker I have want to share the bits of information I have picked up during the years, so I have started a blog dedicated to no budget digital film making. If you wish to learn more about the use of the canon series of camcorders and film making visit me a http://www.cannondigitalfeaturefilmmaking.blogspot.com.

Screenwriter Options - Getting Your Movie Made

Expert Author Steven Razzon
If you have written a screenplay and want to see it made into a movie, you have several options. You can submit it to Hollywood studios. You can also look for independent filmmakers, who may be looking for screenplays. Your final option is to make the movie yourself, learning some of the skills needed, and getting volunteers, or hiring experts to help make your movie. This article will cover the different options open to you as a screenwriter.
You can find the mailing addresses for Hollywood studios, and send your script to them. Unfortunately, they will usually send it back unread, as they do not accept anything which is not submitted by a literary agent. You can then try to get a literary agent to represent you and your screenplay, but it can be very difficult, as they usually want to represent writers with proven track records. You can also seek out independent filmmakers, who are more open to reading scripts by unknown writers. However, independent filmmakers almost always have several of their own movie ideas they are working on, and their own scripts take preference over those submitted by others. Or finally, you can make the movie yourself.
Many writers have turned their own screenplays into movies, and some have made a lot of money with their movies. With the digital video revolution, it is possible to shoot a high quality movie using an inexpensive video camera, and then do the editing on a home computer. Some writers have done this, becoming their own directors and producers, making their movie for under $10,000. But many writers who become first time filmmakers, do not finish their movies because the work involved can be overbearing, or they make a movie which is of low quality which has little chance of success.
I will outline here two low cost options for you as a screenwriter wanting to make your movie yourself. The first option is to learn the skills you will need to make your movie. You can take some workshops and seminars on filmmaking, and buy your own camera and computer with an editing program, and practice with both. You can then get some volunteer actors and crew members and make your movie. However, the best thing to do is to first make several short films, before you tackle your feature length movie. This way, you can learn as you go, making your mistakes on your short films, rather than your feature length movie. It is advisable to make at least 4 or 5 short films, to learn how to produce and direct a movie. If you have a regular job, and spend all of your free time making short films, you will do well to make 4 per year, with 2 or 3 being closer to the average. Short films typically cost one to three thousand dollars, even if volunteers are used.
The other low cost option for a screenwriter is to hire an experienced filmmaker, who is used to making low budget movies, to do most of the work. Such a person may have spent many years working with very small budgets, and knows how to utilize volunteers or low paid help to make a movie. For a writer whose main interest is in getting their movie made, rather than learning a lot of skills that may not interest them, this can be the better option. An experienced low budget filmmaker can likely save you thousands of dollars, and ensure that your movie is saleable.
I am an expert at making low budget movies. I have movie making packages starting at $14,000. You can be the director, or I can direct it for you. You may be able to find two actors who are keen to get the lead roles in a movie, rather than bit parts, who will want to share the cost. I can make your movie where I live, or come to you. If made where I live, your movie can be made to look like it was made somewhere else. This is done all the time, and it is explained on my website: http://www.bushpilotproductions.com/makeamovie.html.
To make your movie at a very low cost, there are script considerations which are also explained on the website. You can keep trying whatever you have been trying, and eventually give up, and then mumble the name of your movie when you are dying. Or, you can get proactive, and make your movie.

Vancouver Movie Producers - Making a Movie in Hollywood North

Expert Author Steven Razzon

Every year, hundreds of movies and television productions are made in Vancouver, aka Hollywood North. It is the third largest centre for film and TV in the world, behind only Los Angeles and New York City. It is also home to many filmmakers experienced in making very low budget movies. These low budget filmmakers can also make videos for websites, including product promo videos, commercials, and infomercials. This article will explain why Vancouver is renown for being a centre for film and video production.
Vancouver is on the west coast of Canada, with the mildest climate in Canada. Movies shot here can be made to look like they were shot in most any part of the US, including California. Certain parts of the city can be used to portray many American cities, such as Chicago and New York City. Outlying areas of Vancouver have been used to make movies that look like they were made on farms and in small towns in Texas and the midwestern United States.
And because Vancouver is the third largest movie making centre in the world, there are a lot of actors here, mostly unknown, who are willing to work for modest pay. Similarly, there are many production crew members here who will also work for low pay. Vancouver is a multi cultural city, so actors of virtually any ethnicity can be found. With forests, mountains and the ocean nearby, spectacular scenic backdrops can be utilized. Many music videos made in Vancouver have taken advantage of the low cost of production, and the very varied shooting locations.
For these reasons, Vancouver is the first choice for low cost video and film production, and many American producers use the facilities here for multiple film and video productions. Anyone wanting to make a movie can locate the people, resources and locations they need by searching on the internet.
People to search for on the internet can include actors, writers, directors, casting agents, editors, production crew members and you can also search for camera gear rentals, and green screen studios for special effects. Green screen shooting is frequently used, to make it look like the actors are in non local locations, such as desert areas or tropical areas, and in overseas locations such as Asia, the Middle East and Europe. With these and other movie making tricks, Vancouver can be used to make most any movie that the human mind can imagine.
I am a low cost video and film producer in Vancouver Canada. I have won 4 awards for my short films, and I have made hundreds of videos for the internet. I have access to many actors, and I can find virtually any type of actor that might be needed. On my website, you can see about 25 sample videos. If you are out of town, we can work together by phone and email, with casting tryouts put on the internet for your review. This can be done for smaller productions such as TV commercials and web videos, as well as for a feature film. I offer free phone consultations with no obligation.

Tired of Setting Up an Online Business? Focus on These 2 Things

Do you know what it takes to set up an online business super fast?
What if you learned the exact 2 things you should be doing every day to make instant money and set up your online business for great profits?
The purpose of this article is to get you started on the right track showing the right system and strategies you can use starting today.
Here are the 2 steps you should focus on every single day...
1. Drive massive loads of targeted traffic to your website.
2. Focus in setting up your sales funnel.
Lets us talk about these 2 steps in detail...
1. Drive massive loads of targeted traffic to your website.
The first step that you have to take on a daily basis is to drive massive traffic to your website. It is important that the traffic you are driving is high quality and targeted traffic that will buy from you. If you focus in driving low quality traffic it will not convert and you will waste your valuable time and money.
My research says that articles drive the highest quality traffic. There is one solid reason behind this. When a reader reads your article he is convinced and he starts believing you as an expert in your niche. When he arrives at your website he is ready to take the action that you are telling him to take at your website. This increases the conversion of whatever action you want your visitor to take on your site. The action can be either becoming your leads and buy your products.
2. Focus in setting up your sales funnel.
The next important thing you should be doing every day is focus in building your sales funnel. Your sales funnel consists of various components...
a. Front end products that you will be selling to your visitors.
b. A solid list building system with a squeeze page to build your targeted subscribers list.
c. Backend high ticket products that will make you solid income in the long run.
d. Various offers set up in your sales system at various points such as one time offers, up sells, etc.
e. Follow up emails that will build relationship with your leads and also provide them quality content on regular basis.
f. Sales emails that will recommend your products to your list.
g. Testing and tracking system installed that will track your system at various individual traffic sources.
If you focus in driving traffic and building your sales funnel every day you will keep earning more and more money every single day.

How I Got Started With My Internet Business? My 25k Blueprint Revealed

After months of development and hard work my first two websites failed miserably and here's what I did next...
I closely watched what the top internet earners are doing. I subscribed to their mailing lists. I stopped listening to what they said and I started watching what they were doing. I tracked them inside out. I tracked many top internet marketers of that time and I noticed a similar trend going on.
In fact I followed top online marketers till the end. What kind of products they were creating, how they are selling those products and how they are setting up their websites. This is what I realized. I had tons of information in my head and I knew everything. The only thing I was doing wrong is not taking my system till the end. I was applying just 30% of the system and knowledge I had in my head. To earn money and make my website successful I have to apply 100% of the system. It is like a bike without an engine. You cannot expect a bike to run smoothly without a clutch plate.
That is how my website looked. I had content on my site but no list building system. I had few products but not enough for me to make big money. I had content but no links to my website to get me high search engine rankings. I had few things in place but I never tracked what is working and what is not working. I had no relationship building system in place to communicate with my subscribers.
This is what I did. I pulled out a white chart, got a pen and designed a complete process map. When I was finished I had a complete system right in front of me that included everything that my website needs to succeed online. My process map was simple. All it included were boxes and arrows all connected to each other.
Here are the following components I designed in my process map...
1. Squeeze page to build a list.
2. Follow up email marketing system to build relationship and sell products to my list.
3. Different products of several levels in the funnel ranging from $97 to $5000 that will earn me money at several points in the funnel.
4. Traffic generation system mainly using article marketing.
5. Viral marketing system to drive more leads and traffic.
6. Blog to place more targeted optimized content on my website.
All of these components were connected and I had my final plan in front of me.
I went under ground with this new plan and launched my third website which finally made me over $25,000.

Buying Other People's Websites And Take Over Their Businesses

Getting an online business off the ground can be quite challenging. That is why many entrepreneur types prefer to buy existing businesses and take it over from there. This practice has many advantages that make it a worthwhile endeavor. Rather than starting from the ground up, one can actually piggyback in to the online business world with built in customers and clients. Of course, if this is the plan, there is a certain amount of respect to the original audience that one must pay. It may not be a good idea to come in and right away begin to change things. If you are looking for instant customization, this could set you back a few months. However, if you know what you are doing, then you probably bought the online business because you had a passion that led you to it, and in that regard, any changes you attempt could, in fact, be a good thing for the company moving forward.
While you organize your plans for expansion or renovation, whatever the case may be, it is also important that you honor commitments (within reason) with existing customers before instituting any new policies or procedures. Doing so can make for an easier transition. But once you have moved past the transition stages, then the fun can really begin. As you get comfortable with the lay of the virtual landscape, it becomes easier to implement your own ideas and take the site to the next level of what you had envisioned when you originally made the purchase.
Your first goal upon going into full management mode is to take an inventory of advertisers and advertising rates. Examine what other opportunities you have to generate revenue on the website by closely examining page views and comments (for content development purposes) and click through impressions (for advertising solicitations). Find the ways that you can turn traffic into revenue by examining what exists, offering additional value to your supporters, and discovering new opportunities.
It is important to realize the responsibility and the authority that you take on when purchasing a website for someone else. You definitely don't want to reinvent the wheel. It's easier and cheaper just to come up with your own site idea in that case. Still, you do want to find ways of improving the experience for everyone. There is a lot of uncertainty when a site sells out and transitions into a new level of ownership. Do your best to make sure your visitors are ready for the changes ahead.
Taking over a new business is a fun and exciting time, but it can also border on being too much if you approach it in the wrong manner. Keep your wits and do your best.

Organizing Bookmarks - A Surefire Way to Reduce the Clutter in Your Life

Expert Author Paul M Ventura
I just finished cleaning out and organizing the bookmarks which I have made in Firefox over the last 6 years or so. I want to encourage everyone else to do the same on your respective computers and browser of choice as I feel exhilarated and much less cluttered.
Do the same thing on your computer; take stock of what you need and if possible offload or delete anything which you don't. Your computer will thank you in the form of speedier performance.
The same goes for your workspace. A cluttered desk is a cluttered and preoccupied mind, so throwing away what you don't need and organizing the rest to get it out of site (out of site, out of mind) will substantially increase your productivity and likely improve your overall mood.
On a side note, I found a lot of ridiculous bookmarks which I don't know how they found their way into my browser, but I also came across a lot of links to affiliate marketing, MMO (making money online), and similar sites from when I first got into online marketing years and years ago.
It reminded me firsthand that there is a lot of garbage out there and there are a lot of less than reputable scammers out there looking to take advantage of people who are eager and even desperate to learn how to make money online. I'm thinking back to my origins in affiliate marketing where I paid $50 for a 20 page eBook which was completely crap in terms of what I "learned".
That's why you've got to exercise your due diligence whenever you're buying an information product online, particularly one which tackles an oftentimes exploited niche. A lot of people get scammed each and every day but because they are so desperate to learn about the workings of what it takes to make real money online, they are willing to let themselves get scammed time and time again in the hopes that they'll see some actual money coming their way by doing the promised and oftentimes guaranteed steps.
The 20 page eBook which I purchase for a hefty $50 literally taught how to make money online using Adwords plus affiliate marketing. The process was to go to Clickbank, get an affiliate link, create an ad in Adwords with your affiliate link as the link, and count your money because it worked oh so well. This is something I could have learned on the Adwords website in about 5 minutes for free, yet I shelled out money to purchase their "secret" advertised method which didn't even work. Live and learn.
This is in large part why my 10 Day Fast Track Affiliate Course is COMPLETELY free. People looking for information on how to make money online for the first time can be understandably very wary, and honestly they should be.
By offering my training course completely for free, there is no risk associated with signing up and learning about the proven methods which I use to make money affiliate marketing every day. If you haven't signed up to see what all of the fuss is about already, see why you should sign up for yourself, all you need is a first name and email address to get started.

How to Create a Coaching Program in One Month

Expert Author Sean R Mize

Are you an expert on one specific field? Are there hundreds of people who are dying to know your secrets? Are these people more than willing to spend money to know what you know? Then, create your coaching programs and make more money.
A lot of people want to coach but they simply don't know how to get started. If you're one of them, let me tell you that it wouldn't be easy but you can make it happen in the next 30 days. Here's how you can do that:
1. Spend the first couple of days researching your target audience. Your goal here is to fully understand exactly what they're looking for. Know their needs, demands, goals, and their motivating factors in wanting to know what you know. If you're offering coaching programs to those people who want to become a freelance writer for example, you need to know if they need help in honing their writing skills, in understanding how web content and online articles are written, if they need to know important things like SEO and link building, etc. If you know exactly what they want, it'll become much easier to make your programs very effective and useful. This will also help you save some time as you'll know right away what specific information and assistance you're going to offer.
2. Next step is to set the goals of each of your programs. This is very important. You're most likely to help your clients get to where they would like to be if you know ahead of time what they're trying to accomplish in signing up to your program. If you're offering internet marketing coaching programs for example, some of your goals could be the following:
* Ensure your clients know how to create their own website and blog in the next 7 days.
* Teach about content marketing which include blogging, guest blogging, article marketing, ebook writing, and ezine publishing.
* Teach about link building.
* Discuss about different traffic generation methods, etc.
3. Next step is to figure out the best ways to realize the goals of your programs. You can easily equip your clients with the kind of knowledge they need by doing weekly presentations, question and answer portion, hands-on practice, monthly consultation, and by sending them relevant emails, ebooks, newsletters, and reports that they can use as reference materials. Giving them the tools that they need would also greatly help.
4. Choose your mediums. There are different ways to conduct coaching programs these days. You can do it over the phone, through email, by sending CD and DVD series, or do it in person. Keep in mind that the use of each of these tools has pros and cons. For example, even though face-to-face coaching programs are considered much more effective and more expensive, I wouldn't advise you to offer them just yet until you acquire the needed specific skill set which include presentation and public speaking skills. For rookies, I always recommend email and phone coaching as they're less demanding. Plus, you can design these programs in 30 days or less.

Setting Strategic Search Engine Optimization Goals for 2012

Expert Author Mandy Buchanan
 .
We are now a week into 2012 - have you set your search engine optimization goals yet? Goals are important for helping us to achieve and get what we want out of our online business so today I want to discuss the topic of search engine optimization goals do's and don'ts.
Search Engine Optimization Goals - Focus on Actions Rather than Rank
Instead of saying 'I want to be first on Google next month' (sure, don't we all) focus on things that you can actually DO. The problem with focussing on rank is that you actually don't control that no matter what anyone may want to tell you. There are probably hundreds of thousands of other websites out there competing for those search terms, doing the same things you are doing, and so you simply don't know whether you will reach first place. Instead focus on things you do have control over - those actions that you know help to improve your SEO results. When you focus on the actions, good search placement should follow naturally. In fact the first time I received a first place rank on Google for a search term I hardly knew what I was doing at all and certainly had no idea that would happen! It was a very pleasant surprise and what initially got me interested in search engine optimization. I was simply doing what I felt would be beneficial for my business.
Break It Down
There are a number of factors which determine search engine optimization success, try to break these down and then set goals for the different areas e.g. blogging, social media, article marketing, link building, on-page optimization, etc. Make your goals specific and realistic e.g. I want to write five articles per week.
Know Where You're At
It is also important to always know where you're at. Track your results so that you know what is working and what is not. Although you don't want to focus on rank, you do want to know where you rank so that you can see if the actions you are taking are actually working or not. If they are not then you need to set some new goals for specific actions you can take and see if those work. Watch how what you do affects your placements in the search engines.
Setting specific search engine optimization goals is important for your success online but these goals should be focussed on actions that you have control over as opposed to rank which you do not. Use rank as a means of seeing whether the actions you are taking are actually working or not.
